What's Bloomscrolling?
How I came across the concept and why I do it.
It's been at least a couple of months since I began actively Bloomscrolling in my notes daily. I've seen other people picking up the idea here and there, and it makes me so happy to see!
But I wanted to take the time to make a smallish article about the practice.
Most everyone today is involved in some kind of social media. And everyone also knows the practice of doomscrolling. That rabbit hole you fall down where you find one meme or video, which leads to another, and then another, until you realize suddenly that two solid hours have passed and you gained absolutely nothing from it.
Most of us are guilty of it, whether it be on Facebook, or Instagram, or YouTube. I'm guilty of this behavior a lot on Pinterest.
Ironically, while falling down the time-sink that is Pinterest, I stumbled upon this idea.
As I have mentioned in a different article, this year my main goal has been to clean up what I'm consuming online and in real life. When I accidentally stumbled across this particular picture, it spoke to me immediately. As a person who is very mobility disabled and basically trapped inside my own home (housebound), the thing I miss the most is Nature. So I saw this Bloomscrolling idea and thought right away: I can't get into nature anymore, but I CAN bring it to me!
I'm an Aries. Triple Aries, in fact. We don't do things by halves, nor do we dawdle about mulling ideas over. I decided, immediately, that I must begin Bloomscrolling, both for myself as well as my readers.
And so I began, at least a few notes a day with images of natural beauty. I expanded the concept to a couple of other categories which I created myself based on the original idea: Shroomscrolling as well as Blooms & Buddies.
I have a couple of “rules” I've given myself that I follow pretty closely but not in every instance.
I try to keep most (but not all) images from Substack itself. The works of other writers directly, with the idea that it may help others find them.
I try to stick with flowers and adjacent things, though I will occasionally post other imagery that spoke to me strongly.
Lately, I have been passing over images that havebeen restacked many times in favor of ones that have zero restacks or very few. This is for a similar reason as my rule #1: helping give other people more exposure. How much exposure they actually get considering I only have 90 subscribers is anyone's guess, but that's my general idea, anyhow.
And that's basically it. The whole story, short and sweet. How I found Bloomscrolling, and why I do it.
If you feel like Bloomscrolling yourself, please do! I don't own the concept by any means, and I figure the more, the merrier!
We all need beautiful things in this world.
So, here, have some flowers!

It’s a lovely idea, thank you for bringing it here 🌸🌼🌺
so much love that you started this
